[Encore] Encore version 5 release ?

Hi Guys
Nice to see some emails on this list, it was getting lonely :-)
WRT hosting issues I do not think that is the problem for people with
*existing* installations.
Hosting isn't a problem really because a system that can host enCore 3 or 4
can also host V5. External hosting using a commercial server provider,
however, is an issue but only because we use multiple ports.
If anything is slowing the adoption of V5 amongst existing enCore worlds I
think it is that the code changes needed to migrate an enCore 3 or 4 MOO,
with any amount of object/code customization, are just too labour intensive.
Just for fun I started to look at what would be needed to resurrect my v4
MOO as a V5 one and the amount of coding changes was huge.
Admittedly my MOO was heavily customized with many homebrew objects and
systems but that would be the case in any MOO with a reasonably long history
of development.
How many full blown conversions have been done?
Are there any V5 MOOs out there open for business, so to speak?
Is anybody collecting the stats on what kinds of issues people are having
and how they are being solved?
I would be happy put a link to that info at the Barn for people to read
while they evaluate making such a big change.
Oh and Daniel
I second Barbara's comment re programming.
It get's better the more we do it, age doesn't matter.
The true power of MOO is in the code, as your work clearly shows. We can
literally "move worlds" with those words of power :-) What's more we can
share these worlds and allow others to build on our foundations. Try that
with a static web page or bulletin board system.
Ciao
KJ

Daniel,
Things have been quiet with the enCore Consortium, and we need to rethink
what our goals are and directions. The outofdate website is my fault with
may graduate studies filling my plate.
I love the enCore Installation wiki! In fact, I was considering shifting
the consortium website entirely to a wiki so that their might be more open
participation from members. I might have to ask you more about this
particular wiki. I think the hosting issues are the single most important
hurdle for shifting up to enCore v5 for a lot of people.
Cheers,
Lennie

Hi there,
I was just wondering if there are any news about a version 5 beta2 (or
final) release
or even about the encore consortium.
- On sourceforce there is still v5.0b nov 15 2006
- the consortium page has been updated jan 2007
Note: I am not whining here or something, just curious since I make it
my job
to periodically check out tech I like ;)

PS: I still have Moos running (though not so often used).
Im am too old for programming, but can contribute with spreading the word
and stuff, e.g.
