Basically, I have created a subset of characters who have the limited = capabilities of guests (I made the characters and then @chparent to#31) = but are not for general use. The problem is that players meaning to login = as guests are showing up as these restricted characters. =20 On the parent of the character subset (#788), I changed the free_to_use = property to 1, which should technically make them unavailable. =20 Then I found out that #31:do_reset verb automatically switches the = property back to "1" (on/available) when the guest logs out. So I copied = the verb to my parent character (#788) and sneakily switched the verb to = turn them "off" when the character logs out. This seemed to work. But there is some internal process that keeps turning all guests back "on" = periodically--overnight, while I'm sleeping. I'm not sure how to find = this verb and am not sure I have to. My instinct is to set the permission on the #788.free_to_use property to = make it impossible for whatever internal process to reset the property. I = have fiddled with the "c" permission bit on the property but don't get how = this works. Any help would be appreciated. Hope this long-winded explanation makes = some sense to someone out there. I have no idea how to get into how this material displays in the bottom half of the viewing panel. This conference should provide good exposure for enCore. I encourage you to come for the Symposium on Feb 18th to check out how enCore handles a conference of 100+ people. I think there was a shift from v3 to v4 that might have affected things, but when I moved from AlaMOO (v3) to Nouspace (v4) I implemented a small bit of code you had helped generate to adjust the $webnote, so I have a $webnote that works in Nouspace in v4. My problem is getting it to work in TTU English MOO. Originally, it was a fairly simple trick to make a $webnote 1) @create $thing Webnote 2) @chparent Webnote to $webpage You then had a "think" that could be placed inside rooms but still display HTML code. Perhaps this approach is backwards and the _HTML for the description is all that needs to be added to the $thing (rather than using the $webpage room as the parent). Anyway, when I attempt to make a $webnote in Nouspace, it displays as an object in a room, but it functions as a room (with no exits--you open the note and you are stuck inside it and have to @go to get out). I'm not sure I have any code I can send your way, but I'd be happy to grant you access to TTU MOO or Nouspace to look around. I really appreciate your help Alex! Note to you and Kevin on the display problem in the bottom of $webpages Alex--The problem seems to only be in $webpage rooms. Daniel believes it is a simple CSS problem and will help offer a fix. Initially, I had in mind a large National Endowment for the Humanities Grant that might provide $200,000, and I may still try to put that grant together (due in October), but I have decided that I want to focus on a smaller grant that might benefit a local site's activities. Do you have a grant you know of that would offer funds to support your site's activities? Let me write it for you (or with you). I'm thinking something along the lines of a grant Jeffrey Schneider recently received for his German language enCore site at Vassar College. It funds a programming workshop and some training and support for teachers. I'm looking for a specific target grant that will support new or continued activities. If you have one in mind (but haven't had time to put together a grant application), I would be interested in working with you to get this grant done. This grant don't have to be huge and could even be the kind of "innovation grants" offered at some institutions internally. Let me know if you are interested. Try this command:  go to the room where you want to prohibit teleporting.  Type @set here.free_entry to 0. You should then get the message Property set to 0.  You can check by typing @d here.free_entry. This should confirm that the prop has indeed been changed.  I tried this in VRoma, and it did prohibit everybody but the room's owner or a wizard from teleporting into the room, though people could still enter by "walking" in through text commands or webexits.

Also, when I try to lock the entrances, I give the command

I had this same problem a while back and got the following explanation and fix from Alexandre Borgia.  I followed this procedure exactly in VRoma, and @lock now works for the webexits as well as the text commands.  Good luck!  Barbara

    I found an easy way to put back exits to their right place in the player
moving sequence which will consider @locks and such. Basically what I did
is make the hyperlinks point to the actual exits so they can generate their
own webpage that uses old verification mechanisms before moving the player.

Here it goes:
=========================================
Step 1)

In $encore_web_utils:generate_links, replace:

 11:     if ($object_utils:isa(object, $exit) && (!use_exit_name))
 12:       linkname = object.dest.name;
 13:       link = tonum(object.dest);

With:

    if ($object_utils:isa(object, $exit))
      linkname = use_exit_name ? object.name | object.dest.name;
      link = tonum(object);

Step 2)

Create the following verb:

  @verb $exit:_html this none this rdx

And program it as follow:

------------------------
user = args[1];
if (user.location == this.source)
  this:move(user);
  if (user.location == this.dest)
    return {"<html><head></head><body></body></html>"};
  else
    return user.location:_html(user);
  endif
endif
return pass(user);

    I found an easy way to put back exits to their right place in the =

Step 1)

In $encore_web_utils:generate_links, replace:

 11:     if ($object_utils:isa(object, $exit) && =
(!use_exit_name))
 12:       linkname =3D object.dest.name;

      link =3D tonum(object);

Step 2)

Create the following verb:

And program it as follow:

Basically, you would have to SET the property manually, not CLEAR it. You can do this with @set, which is available to the $player, whereas eval commands (the ;) are only available to $progs and $wizzes. So ;clear_property is available to people with a programmer's bit only. Actually DOING something with it need permissions on the property in question. ;clear_property(someone, "xpress_log") needs the command issuer (you typing) to be a programmer PLUSS the owner (or granted user) of the property. Much easier: @set me.xpress_log to {} "@set" is defined on the $builder, so you don't need a prog-bit to perform that. I suggest you try that. Good luck. - Daniel From lippold@gmail.com Wed Feb 15 11:54:33 2006 Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list encore); Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:54:33 -0600 (CST) Return-Path: X-Original-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from iq1.utdallas.edu (iq1-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.7]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2DB9F5BBB for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:54:33 -0600 (CST) Received: from localhost (mf2-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.14]) by iq1.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id E1B6A4994 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:54:32 -0600 (CST) Received: from mx2.utdallas.edu ([129.110.10.17]) by localhost (mf2.utdallas.edu [10.110.10.14]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 17696-01-34 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:54:27 -0600 (CST) Received: from zproxy.gmail.com (zproxy.gmail.com [64.233.162.192]) by mx2.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id C709B34DB for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:54:06 -0600 (CST) Received: by zproxy.gmail.com with SMTP id 18so1602131nzp for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 09:54:06 -0800 (PST) DomainKey-Signature: a=rsa-sha1; q=dns; c=nofws; s=beta; d=gmail.com; h=received:message-id:date:from:to:subject:mime-version:content-type:content-transfer-encoding:content-disposition; b=W+L8GiVS4RwXyUi5lZoMb4VbP7cEdRg/eUNc1Tx1XXl25vurp00xgbx3tmfYtbtfXehQ+nn4rMKGYdO0YHat08TRql5fi/nZG2hkyj/Wu4xFMrpyYzxzmsbSy0wYCpA3UauqUkiIH06Utj7dYl7vMX1N3yrV1a2tMkQ/6BYLdlU= Received: by 10.36.39.12 with SMTP id m12mr6791111nzm; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 09:53:33 -0800 (PST) Received: by 10.36.134.16 with HTTP; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 09:53:32 -0800 (PST) Message-ID: <39d2723b0602150953u1b78fa35y80247fff744cb864@mail.gmail.com> Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 12:53:32 -0500 From: Aaron Lippold To: encore Subject: [encore] mail server setup MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Content-Disposition: inline X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at utdallas.edu X-archive-position: 1591 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu Errors-to: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu X-original-sender: lippold@gmail.com Precedence: bulk Reply-to: lippold@gmail.com List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: X-List-ID: X-list: encore Hi, I am having problems getting outgoing mail working in encore. The mail server thing has truely been one major headache for many administrators/mooers. There are so many factors. We should try and isolate where it goes wrong, an then take it from there. (1) You MUST be sure that the lambda moo server is set up to allow outbound mail. Check out http://www.moo.mud.org/moo-faq/moo-faq-1.html, chapter "1.11 Why won't my MOO send email with new character's passwords?" and check out the files on your lambdamoo server accordingly. Maybe that already does the trick. If not: (2) In order to send mail, the inner workings of the enCore database must be flawless. In enCore up to version 4.0.1, I have often experienced that the mailing scripts fail, because they are outdated; namely the stmp synchronization and the timestamp. I have written a fix here http://lingo.uib.no/daniel/code/patch_for_sync_and_timestamp.moo Paste it in like a regular moo patch. When done, you need to type ;$network.debugging_active = 1 ;$network.debugging = {me} Then you need to activate the mailing script somehow--this would be done easiest by clicking on a "stamp" icon somewhere in the web part of enCore, near a $note. You may now follow line by line what happens between the moo and the mailserver, handshake, data transfer etc. It will be written line by line in your Chat area. To find out what's [not] going on, we would need a copy of this output. Remember to set it back when done: ;$network.debugging_active = 0 ;$network.debugging = {} Good luck - Daniel From jung@uib.no Wed Feb 15 16:33:23 2006 Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list encore); Wed, 15 Feb 2006 16:33:23 -0600 (CST) Return-Path: X-Original-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from iq1.utdallas.edu (iq1-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.7]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 5ED365D56 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 16:33:23 -0600 (CST) Received: from localhost (mf2-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.14]) by iq1.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id D8490476A for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 16:33:22 -0600 (CST) Received: from mx2.utdallas.edu ([129.110.10.17]) by localhost (mf2.utdallas.edu [10.110.10.14]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 15118-01-10 for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 16:33:16 -0600 (CST) Received: from noralf.uib.no (noralf.uib.no [129.177.30.12]) by mx2.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id BE392344F for ; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 16:33:11 -0600 (CST) Received: from alfred.uib.no (smtp.uib.no) [129.177.30.120] by noralf.uib.no with esmtp (Exim 4.34) id 1F9VCv-0007dB-NP; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 23:33:10 +0100 Received: from 117.84-48-30.nextgentel.com ([10.24.104.18]) [84.48.30.117] by smtp.uib.no for encore@utdallas.edu with esmtp (Exim 4.34) id 1F9VCv-0006Ne-Fl; Wed, 15 Feb 2006 23:33:09 +0100 Message-ID: <43F3AC2E.3070901@uib.no> Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 23:33:18 +0100 From: Daniel Jung User-Agent: Mozilla Thunderbird 0.8 (Windows/20040913) X-Accept-Language: en-us, en MIME-Version: 1.0 To: encore Subject: [encore] Re: mail server setup References: <39d2723b0602150953u1b78fa35y80247fff744cb864@mail.gmail.com> <43F38769.5010702@uib.no> <39d2723b0602151306m62763f43t4e3a19c828e62cb7@mail.gmail.com> In-Reply-To: <39d2723b0602151306m62763f43t4e3a19c828e62cb7@mail.gmail.com> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-checked-clean: by exiscan on noralf X-Scanner: 35701146cf12c1a7451c3dbbea06bfa6 http://tjinfo.uib.no/virus.html X-UiB-SpamFlag: NO UIB: 0 hits, 8.0 required X-UiB-SpamReport: spamassassin found; X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at utdallas.edu X-Amavis-Alert: BAD HEADER Improper folded header field made up entirely of whitespace in message header 'X-UiB-SpamReport': X-archive-position: 1593 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu Errors-to: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu X-original-sender: jung@uib.no Precedence: bulk Reply-to: jung@uib.no List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: X-List-ID: X-list: encore Hi Aaron, Aaron Lippold wrote: > I found that I did not have OUTBOUND_NETWORK set. Domain name required for sender address 9 OK. 553. I guess the "RCPT TO" line doesn't contain what it is supposed to do. Again, if you apply my patch, you will read a printout of the transfer negotiation. It will look like this: (this MOO's name is "Norvana", running on "lingo.uib.no", the mail server is "alf.uib.no") Norvana> (establishing connection) alf.uib.no> 220 alf.uib.no ESMTP (Exim 4.34) at ... Do you see the RCPT TO: line? This line must be accepted with a 250 answer, but in your case, it is rejected with a 553 answer. The RCPT TO: line is entered by $network:raw_sendmail. Normally, a mail with an invalid target address (RCPT TO:) is not sent--$network:sendmail should make sure invalid address don't pass. But there might be factors I can't see: I don't know what the RCPT TO: line you send says, neither do I know from where you push the email. You should look at these questions: (1) Who is the mail in question being sent to? (2) What's his/her emailaddress in the MOO? If it's a faulty address, you should set the address straight. That might do it. You can set a recorder in a room and it will record all the talk in that room, though you can't view it until the recorder is turned off. That transcript has a web address, so it could be viewable via the web. Are you thinking of a kind kind of RSS type feature for rooms? That sounds fairly interesting. You could set up an rss link to a webroom transcript which is continually updated. It sounds pretty interesting, but I'm afraid others will have to comment on its feasibility programming-wise in enCore. For instance, I don't know if when you "start" a recorder if that actually creates the object that now contains the text of the conversation in a room. Or if that object could be accessible via the web and potentially a rss feed before you "stop" recorder. Lennie looks around the room for more knowledgeable moo programmers... L. In our MOO, CLCS campus, we have a MOO-log collection mechanism that works as follows: 1. Only administrators can switch this on or off to start or stop logging. 2. Each MOO user, after logging off, automatically receives an email with the full transcript of all communication he/she was involved in, including moves, even if moving across rooms. On re-connection, a new log is started, etc. 3. The administrator also receives a copy of this via email (it goes without saying that administrators should get written consent from users before doing this...). Is that what you are looking for? (information about v5 is indented. The non-indented parts go for current versions.) Lennie Irvin wrote: > I may not know exactly what you mean by the question. You can set a > recorder in a room and it will record all the talk in that room, though > you can't view it until the recorder is turned off. Yes you can. When a recorder starts a session, a note is created right away. This is why you may get a "quota exceeded" when you are low on quota and wish to log a session: The creation of the (empty) note is then prohibited. This note is kept in "Nirvana" (#-1) for the time of the recording. As the conversation grows, line by line is added to this note. This is a normal note which can be viewed at any time, including during recording. v5 has a convenient "preview" button/link which lets you read the recording in progress. This is for participants showing up late (who wish to read what has been said and done prior to their arrival), and for the teacher, who wants to know how many utterances a given player has contributed with in this session (there is a statistics section on the note saying how many participants there are, naming them, and mapping them to how many utterences they have contributed with. The lines are colored (one user - one color), and utterances are thus easily retrievable. This is generated on the fly, and works already during recording. This is much more accurate, or: telling, than the "idle time" in the @who command. When the recording is done, this note is "teleported" from Nirvana to the recorder. The information about what note's #-number is stored on the recorder.log property. Anyway, v5 makes automatically a log of the "user experience", i.e., in a way, the old "personal Xpress Log" is ON by default (due to reasons i don't want to explain here). So every player has a personal log of his/her contribution, and, in fact, perception. Since it is tied to the user, not the room, it works cross-room. And cross-session, in fact. This log is k
