Actually folks this was done/not done/undone at the citizens of lambdamoo's request. They have a container object that is actually a player class. Some of our unique programmers developed a way to be a player and have players in you. Makes for some interesting conversations to say the least. If you want to fix this you need to modify the verb(s) on your core that allow movement of the object to check if its a valid player flag and not allow it to enter anything but valid objects either via a list prop check or just descendents of $room. -----Original Message----- From: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu [mailto:encore-bounce@utdallas.edu]On Behalf Of Alexandre Borgia Sent: Thursday, January 12, 2006 10:35 AM To: encore@utdallas.edu Subject: [encore] Re: Strange problem Hi Lennie! Actually folks this was done/not done/undone at the citizens of = lambdamoo's request. They have a container object that is actually a = player=20 class. Some of our unique programmers developed a way to be a player and = have=20 players in you. Makes for some interesting conversations to say the = least.=20

If you=20 want to fix this you need to modify the verb(s) on your core that allow = movement=20 of the object to check if its a valid player flag and not allow it to = enter=20 anything but valid objects either via a list prop check or just = descendents of=20 $room.

Hi=20 Lennie!

           = =20 I experience this from time to time, it happens when your player is = not=20 located inside a valid room.  This is why using @go to teleport = you=20 elsewhere fixed the problem.  As for why this happened I cannot = tell, but=20 moving commands are not 100% error-proofed and for instance I think = you can=20 get inside an object that is not a room if you type “@go = #<object=20 id>”.  You probably did something like that by = mistake.  But=20 there’s no worry about it, you can always use @go or @home to = get back to a=20 valid location! Hey = Everyone,

I have=20 been experiencing the strangest thing while logged in to the TTUMOO. I = attempt=20 to talk (say hi) and I get this response sequence

I don't = understand=20 that.
Try this instead:  say
<<I enter say and then = it=20 says>>
Please enter your statement and hit = return.
<<I type=20 some and hit enter.  Nothing.  I type a period on a line by = itself.=20 Nothing.  I type and enter again and I get the next = line.>>
I=20 don't understand that.

I type "look" and get "I don't = understand=20 that."

When I hit the WHO button and LOOK button I get = these=20 messages:

Best, This is an easy web form search query in v5. However, while you are waiting for it, I just cooked up a little text command you can try in your own MOO. Say the sequence you are looking for is "LOOKING GLASS". Paste this command into the command line (concatenate this to one line if it's broken down by the mail client): ;for o in [1..toint(max_object())] suspend(0); try if ($object_utils:has_property(o = toobj(o), "description")) if (typeof(desc = o.description) == LIST) desc = tostr(@desc); endif if ((typeof(desc) == STR) && (i = index(desc, search = "LOOKING GLASS"))) notify(me, $string_utils:nn(o), 1); me:tell("...", desc[max(1, i - 20)..min(length(desc), i + length(search) + 20)], "..."); me:tell(); endif endif except error (any) me:tell("ERROR at ", o); endtry endfor me:tell("Done with all objects."); Change the word "LOOKING GLASS" (found in the middle somewhere) to whatever you like. For convenience, I have thrown in a preview of the surrounding as well. Please let me know if you need anything else, or if you get an ERROR. - Daniel From kevijeps@telusplanet.net Mon Jan 16 10:47:00 2006 Received: with ECARTIS (v1.0.0; list encore); Mon, 16 Jan 2006 10:47:00 -0600 (CST) Return-Path: X-Original-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from iq1.utdallas.edu (iq1-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.7]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id E690A5BD1 for ; Mon, 16 Jan 2006 10:46:59 -0600 (CST) Received: from localhost (mf2-pmn.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.14]) by iq1.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id ADACA1DF1 for ; Mon, 16 Jan 2006 10:46:59 -0600 (CST) Received: from mx2.utdallas.edu ([129.110.10.17]) by localhost (mf2.utdallas.edu [10.110.10.14]) (amavisd-new, port 10024) with LMTP id 05607-01-16 for ; Mon, 16 Jan 2006 10:46:56 -0600 (CST) Received: from priv-edtnes56.telusplanet.net (outbound01.telus.net [199.185.220.220]) by mx2.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 774C63384 for ; Mon, 16 Jan 2006 10:46:51 -0600 (CST) Received: from lilith ([66.222.244.176]) by priv-edtnes56.telusplanet.net (InterMail vM.6.01.05.04 201-2131-123-105-20051025) with ESMTP id <20060116164650.HBYI1003.priv-edtnes56.telusplanet.net@lilith>; Mon, 16 Jan 2006 09:46:50 -0700 From: "Kevin Jepson" To: Cc: Subject: [encore] Re: Problems with enCore Program Editor inputs Date: Mon, 16 Jan 2006 09:46:49 -0700 Message-ID: <002501c61abc$723e7ef0$640119ac@lilith> MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="windows-1250" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable X-Priority: 3 (Normal) X-MSMail-Priority: Normal X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook, Build 10.0.6626 Importance: Normal X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2900.2180 In-Reply-To: X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at utdallas.edu X-archive-position: 1566 X-ecartis-version: Ecartis v1.0.0 Sender: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu Errors-to: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu X-original-sender: kevijeps@telusplanet.net Precedence: bulk Reply-to: kevijeps@telusplanet.net List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Ecartis version 1.0.0 List-Id: X-List-ID: X-list: encore Hi Robert That's it! One option we are currently looking at is to have = the user accounts defined in the Active Directory, an account will be created in = both the LMS and the MOO with the same username and password. Ideally the = user will only be able to change their password in the LMS, however for this to be = the case we would need the password in the MOO to be changed = also.

Is it possible to set up a batch type file that = will open a MOO connection, perform some commands and then close the connection = again? Perhaps a Telnet connection? The solution to this would be similar to = one in which a batch file or other mechanism is used to created multiple user = accounts without needing a manual Wiz login first.

The process for logging in will be as = follows:

The user will arrive at our website, they will log = in to the LMS, they will simply press a link which will take them into the MOO = and bypass a second login page.

 <= /font>

Has anyone = out there done something similar in the past or have any information regarding MOO authentication that may help?

 <= /font>

Any help or = advice would be greatly appreciated,

Lambda runs an RPG as well as the 50 million other things its always doing. Granted the HTTP interface might changes this. I have noticed encore is A LOT slower than pure text driven, but what ya gonna do :) At any rate Figure 5K for EVERY user, then figure your bandwidth. Figure double the db size ;db_disk_size() <-- That's the command to do as wizard in a text environment for ram + the 1mg or so that's the server. Your estimates make it 750K for 150 Users on TEXT. As long as your running t1 speeds you "should" be fine. Granted my .25 is worth about .02 :) But since I've been doing this for 12yrs+ I hope I learned something. :) Have fun. P.S. As far as the custom message for the new accounts. We programmed something up on a moo I ran. When the user's mail is sent it calls a specific verb, I'll have to go look it up, and we just added a verb call ourselves to that one. It allowed use to create a custom message for each user or group of users. ahhh found it. $login:request_character <-- this assumes a default core.
