Are there any other features turned off (to perms and/or security reasons) which were meant to be switched on? PERMS: $perm_utils:controls (and -_verb|-_prop) is a great thing, though it seems to me that it isn't used (to bundle this function) as much as it could, and should. This has bugged me for a long time. I think most of the Program Editor perms checks (and elsewhere) should go through there, and we should expand the check on the $perm_utils to include shared owners where appropriate or applicable. Ie., when a property is owned by the object or the object's owner, the object's shared owners should be able to control it as well. But when the property is owned by someone other than the object or the object's owner (plus is writable), it shouldn't be writable for shared owners either. That would mean to take the notion of shared ownership one step closer to the core, where it belongs. Aside: It's a weird thing (though understandable) that shared owner related stuff can be done in Xpress, but not in the MOO command parser... I think I am going to implement this, but I want to ask if you guys have any objections (or input) on this one. Coming Together to Move Forward

Hello Friends,

The mission of the enCore Consortium is not only to promote enCore
development but to try and coordinate it.  What I am sending you now
is the Steering Committee's effort to coordinate the efforts of the
enCore Consortium members and enCore community. We invite you to
participate with your own special knowledge and experience where you feel
you can and where you are especially interested.

Our goal is to form teams to work on specific projects.  I will try
to outline the general goals of each project, so you can see what will be
involved.  The general orientation for all these projects is to
support the release of the new enCore version 5 (tentatively set for an
August 2005 release date).  Please look over this list of projects,
and email me at Lirvin@accd.edu if
you see a project you would like to be a part of.

enCore Consortium Development Projects (2005)

enCore Documentation Project --April-August 2005 (and beyond)
This project will work on creating help documentation for enCore
v5.  It is a large, ambitious project that has many sub-projects
within it
--single-source documentation solution for enCore User's Guide v5
--the new User's Guide will include an updated enCore Administrator's
guide
--new installation/backup/update/move guide
--new guide for teaching with enCore (I envision creating a enCore
Pedagogy Wiki so it is organic and easily open to submissions)
--creation of an enCore programming textbook (or MOO programming
textbook) that could be used by Computer Science classes in programming

For more information please see the website set up already for this
project

http://encore-consortium.org/Documentation/

enCore Interactivity Project --April-July 2005
The goal of this project is to enhance enCore's ability to facilitate
virtual reality and play.  It may involve some gathering and sorting
of objects created in other moos that we may want to incorporate into the
enCore group of generics. These could be play/virtual reality objects
like an object or it could be other objects like porting in Wilson's
everything-in-one room.  It may also be the gathering or even
creating of verbs that could be applied to certain objects--like event
aware rooms.

enCore Graphics Library Project  --April-July 2005
This project will collect a library of copy write free graphics that
we can have as an easily accessible starting point for students to
incorporate graphics into their building.  I suppose it is possible
to include graphics we create too.

enCore Grant Writers Project   --April-Dec. 2005
The goal of this group will be first to position the enCore
Consortium so that it is able to credibly make grant proposals (we are
already close, but more work needs to be done).  Then this project
will begin creating grant requests to targeted foundations, corporations,
or institutions.

These grants will be the future life blood for enCore development, so if
you have any expertise with grants and grant writing, we need you.

enCore Special Initiatives Project
This project is really a subset of the grant writing project.
This work will entail collecting information on special initiatives like
the very large LINGO Project that Daniel Jung supports in Norway and
other countries, or Project Achieve or Ron Broglio's Romantic
Circles--these are special projects that use or propose to use
enCore.

Through developing a relationship with these special enCore initiatives,
hopefully a symbiotic relationship can emerge: the participation of these
initiatives in the enCore Consortium will help the Consortium secure
significant grant funding for its larger program development; conversely,
participation by these initiatives in the enCore Consortium enhances
these initiative's ability to secure funding for their particular work
(perhaps even through the Consortium grants).

Folks
I have = not been=20 using the enCore Xpress interface because of issues with some of the key = objects=20 on my MOO. (They are pseudo room objects that lack the _html verbs = needed to=20 display properly)

I have = been using=20 MOOTCAN in a web browser frame with the other frame displaying web = content and=20 it has worked very well. Using both IE and FireFox so MOOTCAN is=20 working.

For = fun I decided to=20 try and get the Xpress system to work with my MOO.
Before = doing so I=20 wanted to make sure that Xpress was working and discovered the=20 following.

My MOO = version=20 is 4.0.1

When I = try to login=20 using IE, I can do so but the CPU utilization goes up to 100% while the = web=20 frame is updating, this essentially locks up my PC.  I also get = this=20 behaviour at LINGUA MOO as well.

It = appears that this=20 100% utilization only happens from version 4.0.1.  ALAMOO version = 3.3.3=20 doesn't exhibit this problem.

When I = try to login=20 with FireFox however I only get a blank screen!
I can = browse OK or=20 Telnet from the Login screen just fine but only a blank page shows up = from=20 Xpress.
There = is a Java=20 error which follows:

Error: = uncaught=20 exception: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005=20 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIDOMWindowInternal.focus]"  nsresult: = "0x80004005=20 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)"  location: "JS frame :: <unknown = filename> ::=20 onload :: line 0"  data: no]

This = also occurs at=20 LINGUA, but again NOT at ALAMOO so it seems to be version=20 related.

Anybody have=20 any suggestions on what is happening here?

Ciao
KJ

Folks
I = have not been=20 using the enCore Xpress interface because of issues with some of the = key=20 objects on my MOO. (They are pseudo room objects that lack the _html = verbs=20 needed to display properly)

I = have been using=20 MOOTCAN in a web browser frame with the other frame displaying web = content and=20 it has worked very well. Using both IE and FireFox so MOOTCAN is=20 working.

For = fun I decided=20 to try and get the Xpress system to work with my = MOO.
Before doing so I=20 wanted to make sure that Xpress was working and discovered the=20 following.

My = MOO version=20 is 4.0.1

When = I try to=20 login using IE, I can do so but the CPU utilization goes up to 100% = while the=20 web frame is updating, this essentially locks up my PC.  I also = get this=20 behaviour at LINGUA MOO as well.

It = appears that=20 this 100% utilization only happens from version 4.0.1.  ALAMOO = version=20 3.3.3 doesn't exhibit this problem.

When = I try to=20 login with FireFox however I only get a blank = screen!
