Here is a portion of the article's abstract: (Note: the spelling errors are intentional and the full effect of the abstract is best read as a web-text.) A theory of electronic publishing means that writers' & students' roles blur into something new. Yet, institutions of higher education continue to evaluate and assess student writing within print-based models of communicative compentence. "Green Squiggly Lines" performs the difficulties and adaptations faced as writing (and writing assessment) become electronic. When electronic publication comes into the college writing classroom in the form of electronic portfolios what happens? We have a theory, a trace, a prediction of what will happen in the influence that word processors have had on student writing. By outlining a history of word processors in writing pedagogy and assessment (a vast increase in studies of and pedagogies advocating revision occurred in the 1980s), "Green Squiglly Lines" sketches the potential impact of electronic portfolios on writing assessment. How will the publication--the turning of academic essays into (pre)professional documents [literally portfolios in the graphic artist sense of the word]--change writing assessment in American higher education? available: http://wac.colostate.edu/aw/articles/whithaus2002/ ************************************************************ You are invited to join in a discussion of this interesting and well-written article. My installation was successful, and I (and my students) really enjoy the expanded color choices. One part of the installation is not working--the table of colors generated on the fly. When you go into the Xpress Editor and select the EDIT OBJECT APPEARANCE option, you can change the colors for the font, links, and background. With Daniel's code, a new link appears; you click the "colors" link and the table of colors opens as a separate window. When I click the colors link, the window opens but it doesn't open a web page. I'm not sure why the page won't open. One change I made that might make a difference is that I had to change the name "colors" to "colores" to corify colors. I can't see where my change of name might have messed up the web page on the fly. Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Please read the following code carefully: (this is $xpress_object_editor:edit_appearance) 23: color_url = tostr("http://", $network.site, ":", $network.webport, "/", tonum($colors)); ... meaning that the verb searches for an object $colors to be displayed. I.e. the "$colors" object's :_html is written into the newly opened window. Since you don't have that, nothing is written. Change it to be "$colores" and you should get a nice page. It refers to a verb I made to determine the player's language preference, and is part of the language choice I have implemented in my moos. I simply deleted the line: >5: lang = user:lang(); and the table now opens. Beautiful. Beautifully! Two things I noticed about this table: 1) The size of the box where the actual color shows is very narrow. It is possible to adjust the size of this table cell containing the color? 2) This color table is not click selectable--what I mean is that a student can't click one of these colors and select it from the table. Is this possible? Thanks Daniel Lennie At 11:25 PM 10/30/03 +0100, you wrote: >$network.moo_name
