It would also require editting the source for MOOtcan and recompiling it. The changes aren't difficult, however. Keep in mind, though, that changes such as these may be lost during upgrades of MOOtcan or patches to the enCore database. If they were made, you might want to advocate getting them included as permanent additions in the distribution so that you didn't have to reapply them manually in the future. -Joel ----- Joel Wilson UNIX Sysadmin/Java Programmer United States Postal Service Minneapolis, MN > Howdy, > > 1. Since I've already got the code open to try and solve the focus problem for all browsers and not just Mozilla (as requested). The question is, do I work on 0.1.7, 0.1.2, or 0.5.0 of MOOtcan? Also, the applet isn't threadsafe. Several of the java.lang.Thread methods have been deprecated and ought to be rewritten in order to make the applet safer. This isn't a security problem, but something that could cause the applet to crash unexpectedly. However, I doubt it happens very often. -Joel ----- Joel Wilson UNIX Sysadmin/Java programmer United States Postal Service > Like Joel says, both of those things can be accomplished. That means that every new document I put in a room appears at the bottom of the list. Now some time ago, I wrote a quickedit javascript that generates a list of items in a room (.contents) and lets the owner of the room (box, ...) rearrange the items by mouseclick (the new order is then sent to a verb which rearranges .contents). Fair enough, but tiresome nonetheless to do this all the time. Although surely correct that items are appended, not put in front, in daily-use-situations, it's rather the other way round: The most recent document I want my students to see on top of the list, because it is most likely the most important one. I thought of hacking the put-verb on $thing to make the move and then rearrange the contents of the new location. But then I would have to do it on all the other objects as well (rooms, boxes, recorders...). Not good enough. So I thought of changing 'db_objects.c', and switch LL_APPEND(location, contents, oid, next); to LL_APPEND(location, oid, contents, next); in the section 'db_change_location(Objid oid, Objid location)' to make ALL location changes behave that way. But I read in the Changelog that this behaviour in fact had been changed as early as in version 1.1.3 (feb 1991): -- Changed move() to insert the newly-moved object as the last item in the contents list, rather than the first. Why is that? He must have had a reason. Is there a string attached to putting the new item first? Hello all,

I need some help and was wondering if anyone had any advise.

First, when you log into encore, on the text side of the screen, it shows the ip address where you logged on from before.  Is there anyway to hide this?  Our website would like to branch out to other colleges, however, showing their ip address is a big security issue and is hindering our growth.  Any advise?

Secondly, we have movie files and picture files that we are trying to convert so that they can play in our encore site.  However, these files are in .wmv, and .avi files.  Does anyone have any advise as to switching these files over to the encore preferred .mov files?  Or can these files be added?

These questions may be simple enough to change, however as the student administrator on our ecore site, I am at a standstill as to how to fix these issues.  I also don't recall reading anywhere in the archives or past questions anything about these.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you all very much and please feel free to check out our site and offer any advise you may have.  Thank you again.

One more question to ponder, if you would.  Our back arrows have stopped working about a month ago.  I thought it was possibly a problem of an error in typing in a verb or someone editting it when they thought they were editting another object.  However, I have yet to find the solution to it.  Any advise on this matter would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

If the code is intact (we at least know its called since the arrow appears) my guess - especially if you are connecting from a computer lab with similar software configuration - would be that you either changed/updated your web browser recently or changed some of its security settings - and hence for some reason the javascript is not executed. An easy test can be done: ------------------ Back Test

You should not see this! ------------------ Paste this into a text file and save it as ".html". Browse to some location, and then open this file manually. If the javascript is executed correctly you should remain in the same location you browsed, otherwise the "You should not see this!" will appear. That's all I can think of for now;) If this is indeed the problem, I have alas no idea which can cause such issues browser-side. - Alexandre Borgia | One more question to ponder, if you would. Not a help, but I've been having some reports from students using Netscape 7 under Windows XP (in machines that are run by Instructional Computing Services here) that they'll occasionally have trouble getting the MOO to load -- it won't freeze or crash, but it'll either not load the web site or the talk side. If they use Internet Explorer under XP, it works fine, and it seems to work fine in both IE and Netscape on the Mac (under OS 9 in those labs). We're running Encore 3.3. Anyone have any idea why it's doing that? It's the most intermittent problem I've seen in a while. We are trying to add prepositions to our moo, however, I am not sure where to add them.  Any ideas or advise would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

I love M$ for Microsoft--I hadn't seen that before. I know Rene mentioned some machines freezing with Netscape access to the MOO, and I have no idea what is causing that, but I have experienced cases where the text side of the MOO won't load with XP or Win2000 machines (I think Erin mentioned that). In most of the cases I have experienced, the problem has to do with JAVA not being loaded and enabled. I'm not sure about the current situation with XP, but I believe it is not shipped with JAVA installed or enabled. Usually, if no JAVA is the problem, there is a text message on the left of the Encore screen that says JAVA is not installed.
