Then, to check the activity of these players you could use this command: @lastlog This will at least tell you the last time they logged in. I'm not sure how to get the whole history of activity on a single player (but I'd be interested to know). From peeking at the Wizard help, I did find this info (but I've never tried these commands): @guests now [shows information about currently connected guests] @guests all [shows all entries in $guest_log] @guests [shows the last entries of $guest_log] Note, some wizards prefer to use verbs on $guest_log manually, particularly :last(). I hope this helps. Any data from a student who did not sign (usually only 1-3 students out of 80) was of course not considered. I heard this is usually much more complicated in the US, but this is how we do it in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Questions: What does MOOca or MOOtcan do? What is the difference between MOOca and MOOtcan? Benefits? Compatibility issues? How would I install and use MOOca instead of MOOtcan if I wished to? If I am using MOOca and EnCore uses MOOtcan, would it impact my MOO when I upgraded my EnCore MOO to a newer version of EnCore? It has some different features to MOOtcan, but as both are stable and useful tools, it is merely presented as an alternative. I thought for a while that MOOtcan was no longer under development, but I think it is now. MOOca is still under development, and works under MacOSX, with minor cosmetic problems. As I question them, almost all of them are AOL users, presumably using the AOL/Netscape browser. I usually use Internet Explorer, but I recently downloaded Netscape 6 (6.2 I think) on my computer and I wouldn't access the moo at first. To get it to work I had to download and install the JAVA 2 plug in. Once I did that, it worked fine. Since I found this solution, I have been pointing my students with login problems to this plug in. The standard requirements blurb with EnCore says Netscape Communicator 4.08 or later. Has anyone else experienced the need for this plug in with the most recent versions of Netscape? Does anyone know what is going on? I also seem to be experiencing this recently--students who said they could get in earlier are suddenly having problems (I presume they made some changes to their browser or system...). Thanks for any light you can shed on this subject. This is always possible, using any OS. Anyway, Netscape 6.0 is a totally other thing than the 4.something Netscapes. The 6.0 version is a new development. I use Netscape 4.77 within SUSE Linux 7.0 with KDE 2.0 and have no problems - well, one problem: If I idle too long, I get disconnected. I can't use Opera or iCab to access an Encore moo on a Mac either, but that's the browser's fault. Strangely enough, most of the limitations of Encore are the browser's fault, and most of the struggles of people working on things like Encore are to work around them. Not only is that verb invoked, it already has every variable I need: player, origin, exit & destination. I had thought of another solution, but it involved adding two verbs to the room and a property to the player class. It also performed a redundant task on players moving via telnet commands -- a totally inferior solution. I only needed to add one "if" statement to $encore_web_utils:move_via_web to get it to work. I think I accomplish the same sort of thing Emily does simply with links in the description of a $web room/object. What I think you are pointing out is a sort of disconnect between the moo database and the Xpress interface that I have noticed in other places--specifically with descriptions of rooms or objects. Here are two examples of the disconnect that I'm talking about: I created a Letter object. Using the @describe command, I gave the letter a description. I edited the object using the Xpress Object Editor and in the Description text box I found the description I inputted. However, when I do the command LOOK LETTER or even click on the object, I don't see the description appear in the text side of the MOO. The description does not appear in the Xpress side of the MOO either--only the note text. When I log in using telnet, the descriptions appear when I LOOK LETTER. Similarly, I created a Generic Room. I gave the room some description both with the Xpress Editor and with the @describe command, but when I LOOK I don't get the description of the room to appear on the left text-side of the MOO. Again, I can get the description when I interface using a telnet connection. In the case of the ROOM, however, the description does appear in the Xpress window when I LOOK or click on the room link to go to it (or for that matter using the alias commands for exiting). Can anyone explain why I can't get the description of an object to appear in both the text and the web side of the MOO? Thanks for any enlightenment that can be provided. Lennie Irvin P.S. The :look_self command on some verbs checks to see whether the .ts_client is set. This property is set to 1 when a player connects via Xpress (or I believe via the old Surf and Turf client). If the player is connected via Xpress then certain descriptions will not show up in the text window. You can probably edit this verb (on the various object classes) to suit your needs. I believe that is the only thing causing the descrepencies you noticed between Xpress and telnet, but I am not positive.
