I can create and encrypt a letter for a single user without any problem. In this case, now only the person the letter is intended for can . However, anybody can see the text of the letter if they type or click on the letter link in the Xpress graphical window. Is there a way to prevent the viewing of the letter through "look"--ing at it? I suppose I could send them a MOO mail message and it would be basically secure, but I liked the letter method better. Thanks for your help! Lennie Irvin P.S. I also notice another mystery to me. In both Letters and Notes the text that shows when someone s the note or letter is the Note Text material. What has happened to the Description? How can you have a description AND a Note Text for a letter or note? You can add in all the text you want in the description box but it does not show. A dialogue box opens (in both instances) that says: "Sorry, but the 'note-name' is written in a code that you are unable to read." I encrypted the note using this syntax: encrypt #841 with me||Kelly Kelly and I are able to read the note. No one else is. The lock icon should now be next to the object in the Xpress window. Encrypt command functions like locking a note, except with encrypt you are able to give access to the text on the note to specific players, or to any player who is holding whatever 'key' expression you designate (ie if you want anyone to be able to read it while holding a bell, or candle, or whatever). As for the description of the notes...that should still show whenever you 'look' at the object, whether you typed 'look' or clicked on the object icon in Xpress. A note object is defaulted to show "There appears to be some writing on the note..." But you can, of course, delete that line and enter whatever you want in the description field as you Edit Description while in the Object editor in Xpress. Thus 'looking' at the note should yield both the description and the note text. If you type 'read note' in the MOOtcan window, you will not see the description, only the text entered in the note text. I hope this helps. The update has version number 1.3.1 Update 1, and requires the latest Mac Os X 10.1.3. Interested parties can download it here: http://www.versiontracker.com/redir.fcgi/kind=1&db=macosx&id=13760/Java1.3.1 Update1.dmg.bin Although it is now possible to use Xpress in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 for X, there are still a number of unresolved issues. For one thing, text areas does not wrap properly so users are advised to use the @wrap MOO command to prevent overflow of long lines. Also, cut and paste to and from Java text areas does not work yet. A quick test last night seemed to indicate that MSIE 5.1 is currently the only X browser that can run Xpress. Hopefully others will follow soon. Try deleting the second parenthesis at the end of the line -- though if that doesn't work, I think you've got me stumped.   Someone else on the list might have better advice.
