Compiling the server and transferring a core database are two different things -- are you having problems getting the MOO database to run on a compiled server, or having problems with compiling source code? I think it's the former, if stuff works sorta. > What to do, what to do? Is it possible to take a core backup and > use it on another machine? Sure. It sounds like you've done that, for the most part. Why not just add a cname for the dead machine using the machine the moo is running on now? Then you don't have to change anything... :) If that doesn't work, you should probably be able to run @configure-core and fix the name of the host running the MOO core. good luck, cbd. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Bradley Dilger http://web.nwe.ufl.edu/~dilger/ From Lirvin@ACCDVM.ACCD.EDU Sat Jan 12 23:40:22 2002 Received: with LISTAR (v1.0.0; list encore); Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:40:23 -0600 Return-Path: Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from ns0.utdallas.edu (null-smtp.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.1]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id A6AFA288A8 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:40:21 -0600 (CST) Received: from ACCDVM.ACCD.EDU (accdvm.accd.edu [209.184.119.1]) by ns0.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with SMTP id 2E4831A0C17 for ; Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:39:55 -0600 (CST) Received: from Ir191470 [10.1.11.43] by ACCDVM.ACCD.EDU (IBM VM SMTP V2R4a) via TCP with SMTP ; Sat, 12 Jan 2002 23:39:50 CDT From: "Lennie Irvin" To: Subject: [encore] SOS-no object creation for new players? I'm currently in the process of giving my online students accounts in the MOO as they send me confirmation of their registration in my class. One venturesome student attempted to create a room and encountered problems. When the new student clicks on OBJECTS >>CREATE OBJECT>>ANYOBJECT CHOICE they get the dialogue box to name the object. So far so good. However, once they name the object and then click the CREATE button, the Graphical interface page can not display the web page (Webpage not found). Hence, my new students can not create any objects. I've tried it with different objects and as different students. The same. I did attempt to create an object using the text commands and got an interesting error message. Here it is: #80:creation_permitted verb_addition_permitted property_addition_permitted, line 16: Type mismatch ... called from #80:bi_create, line 3 ... called from #63:_create, line 6 ... called from #4:_create (this == #574), line 5 ... called from #4:@create (this == #574), line 94 (End of traceback) What is happening? I seem to recall someone with a similar difficulty in the past but I couldn't remember the solution. My MOO specs are EnCore version 2.1 Running winMOO on an NT Server, IIS web server Thanks so much for anyone who can help me solve this. Yours, Lennie _________________________________ L. Could/should it be implemented in a future release? Here's his suggestion: --------------- I don't know how much control you have over the coding of the MOO Mailer, but it would be very useful to have replies to posts listed as a sort of "sub-post" of the original. This could be implemented by simply inserting the reply underneath the original post with an indent, or an even neater method would be to hide the replies, and have a little '+' beside the post with which you can expand the tree if you want to see the replies. This would probably be quite difficult to program, but I thought I'd just suggest it anyway. --------------- -- Wesley Cooper Professor, Department of Philosophy, University of Alberta Edmonton, Alberta T6G 2E5, Canada 780-492-4069, wcooper@ualberta.ca, http://www.ualberta.ca/PHILOSOPHY From tb0mxd1@corn.cso.niu.edu Thu Jan 17 16:20:47 2002 Received: with LISTAR (v1.0.0; list encore); Thu, 17 Jan 2002 16:20:48 -0600 Return-Path: Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from ns0.utdallas.edu (null-smtp.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.1]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 2D038288A1 for ; Thu, 17 Jan 2002 16:20:45 -0600 (CST) Received: from corn.cso.niu.edu (corn.cso.niu.edu [131.156.1.37]) by ns0.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id 293C81A070D for ; Thu, 17 Jan 2002 16:20:08 -0600 (CST) Received: (from tb0mxd1@localhost) by corn.cso.niu.edu (8.10.2/8.10.2) id g0HLdv529306; Thu, 17 Jan 2002 15:39:57 -0600 (CST) Date: Thu, 17 Jan 2002 15:39:57 -0600 (CST) From: day michael Message-Id: <200201172139.g0HLdv529306@corn.cso.niu.edu> To: encore@utdallas.edu Subject: [encore] Re: MediaMOO's Ninth Birthday and MOOving party Cc: techrhet@yahoogroups.com X-archive-position: 392 X-listar-version: Listar v1.0.0 Sender: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu Errors-to: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu X-original-sender: tb0mxd1@corn.cso.niu.edu Precedence: bulk Reply-to: encore@utdallas.edu List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Listar version 1.0.0 X-List-ID: X-list: encore Just a quick update with a slight address change. I thought I was receiving spam email from a vendor (sample text below) in what looked to be asian characters showing a mail source in china (xxx.cn) I couldnt connect with the source (doesn't exist) so I started looking closer at the files and, especially their attachments. I noticed that the most recent wave of emails all contained two copies of the file winmoochanges.txt but with .exe added to them. Virus? I opened them on a protected machine and it is a copy of the file I was reading a few days ago on my NT server. Strangely enough, the NT server is not set up for smtp or pop3, and there are no email accounts configured on that machine. The 'Sender' of all these emails is the NAME of the login of my NT server (Administrador). The email address is from a link on the domain name that hosts the winmoo (i.e. there is a link that reads info@fusionwebs.com even though the domain of the moo is www.conferencewebs.com) I have, to say the least, deleted the account info@fusionwebs.com and shut down the moo server for the time being. Yes, emailing was enabled in the network config of the moo server, but I am not so sure this is a winmoo breach. Is this a first time occurance of this problem? Any thoughts or suggestions welcome... It will ask you to name the discussion list. Then it asks you to write the purpose of the list, followed by a period on a line by itself, and hit enter. Then it asks if this is a wizard only mailing list, yes or no, then hit enter. At present, you cannot reply to the individual mails and have them go to the list. Subscribers to the list must send a new mail to the listname, rather than reply to a mail from the list. Doing that will only send the mail to the sender. Also, access to subscribe to the list is open to all MOO users, though if the purpose is stated clearly as a limited list, I doubt others will subscribe. If anyone wants to modify these functions, we would be happy to include it in the next release of enCore. To achieve the latter, a new verb has been added, called fileinsert. Bear in mind that I have no knowledge whatsoever in C/C++ programming (which is, I guess, the language used in files.c ??); this justifies the awkward syntax used for fileinsert. If anyone is willing to correct/rewrite files.c, it is more than welcome as even though it works and fits my needs, it might definitely not be the best improvement from the last 59 moons... num fileinsert(str PATH, str NAME, list TEXT, num START, num START) Inserts TEXT on files/PATH/NAME. Creates the file if it didn't exist previously. Assuming LENGTH is the number of lines in TEXT: -START HAS to be provided TWICE, the lines from START to START+LENGTH are inserted with TEXT. This will extend the file length. if the above syntax is not provided, expect duplicates of the last lines or other similar non-wanted effects. If the operation succeeds, it returns 1. Examples: The file starts as: {"line 1","line 2","end"}) Operation File contents after fileinsert("notes","foox.test",{"te","st"},2,2) {"line 1","te","st","line 2","end"} ***************************************************************************** Namárië, -rv, /-----------------------------------------\ MOOOOOooo...! @ http://moo.kcc.hawaii.edu / "A Túrin Turambar turun ambartanen", T. My central room where players land when they login is AlaMOO Plaza. Recently, I had an enterprising student create a room off of her own room called "Alamoo Plaza," complete with entrances and exits named alamoo plaza. As a result, when I did the @go AlaMOO Plaza command, it took me to her room and not the original AlaMOO Plaza. In trying to fix the problem, I attempted renaming her room--no luck. Currently, when I attempt the @go AlaMOO Plaza it gives me this error message: #6:@go (this == #167), line 75: Verb not found (End of traceback) If I attempt to type "look" or "say " the moo responds, "I couldn't understand that." If I type "home" (I have my home somewhere else in the moo), I am sent to the other room and I can look or say all I want. I am still able to use the @go to get to AlaMOO Plaza; it's just using the name of the room that is the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions for clearing this up? Give it some time and if that doesn't do it...let us know.
