You are receiving this email because you are subscribed to the encore@utdallas.edu list. All current subscribers were migrated over to the new list, and there is no change in the name of the list. You should still send emails to encore@utdallas.edu. However, there is now a web interface from which you may edit your user settings and/or unsubscribe from the list. The instructions are below. (It is still possible to subscribe and unsubscribe using the email method.) If you have any questions about the instructions below, please write cynthiah@utdallas.edu. Thank you, Cynthia Haynes ------------------------------------------------------------------- The listar web interface is available for subscribers to easily update their subscription options. The location is: http://listar.utdallas.edu To use this interface, enter your email address and leave the password field blank. Click login. The system emails you an authorization string, which you will need to paste or enter into the auth.field on the webpage that appears after you clicked login (i.e., retrieve the auth.string in the email and return to the web window to execute entering the information). A new page shows some UTD listar lists, and you should select encore. On that page you also have the option to set a new password to replace the authorization string if you prefer. Once click Select List, a new page appears giving you information about the options you may select, and you click SUBSCRIBE. A new email is sent to you and you need only reply to it, leaving the body of the message intact, in order to confirm your subscription to the list. After this, you may log in to the listar web interface to edit your configuration settings, unsubscribe from the list, and so forth. The archive is linked to the enCore download page, but can also be accessed at ftp://ftp.utdallas.edu/pub/ah/moo/binaries/ As a start, I have archived binaries of LambdaMOO 1.8.1 for Mac OS X and SolarisX86. If you would like to contribute a binary version of LambdaMOO for another OS, please read on. 1) Use the LambdaMOO version 1.8.1 source 2) Outbound networking must be enabled, otherwise do not make any changes to options.h 3) Do not compile in any patches 4) The binary archive must be in tar.gz format and contain only the following files: moo restart README.TXT The text for README.TXT follows below. 5) Email the archive to me and I will upload it to the server. Let's see how many operating systems we can cover! README.TXT ---begin The LambdaMOO server is provided in binary form for your convenience. You can get the full source distribution at ftp://ftp.utdallas.edu/pub/ah/moo/LambdaMOO-1.8.1.tar.gz Current developers and maintainers of the LambdaMOO server are Ben Jackson (ben@ben.com) and Jay Carlson (nop@nop.com). Previous developers and maintainers include Erik Ostrom and Pavel Curtis. To install the LambdaMOO server on your machine copy the files 'moo' and 'restart' to the same directory as your MOO database. Then start the MOO on port 7777 by typing: ./restart name-of-database If you have trouble running the binaries, make sure they are executable. Type chmod 755 moo chmod 755 restart If you wish to run your MOO on a different port, specify a port number after the database name: ./restart name-of-database 8888 You may also put the files 'moo' and 'restart' in the /usr/local/bin directory on your machine. ----end __Jan Rune Holmevik, Cand Philol_________________________________________ University of Bergen jan@mac.com Department of Humanistic Informatics jan.holmevik@uib.no Sydnesplass 7, HF-bygget janruneh@utdallas.edu N-5007 Bergen, NORWAY http://lingua.utdallas.edu/jan From jan.holmevik@hedb.uib.no Tue Apr 24 20:01:29 2001 Received: with LISTAR (v1.0.0; list encore); Tue, 24 Apr 2001 20:01:30 -0500 Return-Path: Delivered-To: encore@nobel.utdallas.edu Received: from ns0.utdallas.edu (null-smtp.utdallas.edu [192.168.1.1]) by nobel.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id DF08628762 for ; Tue, 24 Apr 2001 20:01:28 -0500 (CDT) Received: from alf.uib.no (alf.uib.no [129.177.30.3]) by ns0.utdallas.edu (Postfix) with ESMTP id DB4EC1A08CD for ; Tue, 24 Apr 2001 19:55:14 -0500 (CDT) Received: from cm31383-b.ftwrth1.tx.home.com [24.4.16.114] by alf.uib.no for encore@utdallas.edu with esmtp (Exim 3.16) id 14sDaD-0001Ze-00; Wed, 25 Apr 2001 02:55:05 +0200 User-Agent: Microsoft-Outlook-Express-Macintosh-Edition/5.02.2022 Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 19:54:54 -0500 Subject: [encore] Linux Intel Binaries available From: Jan Rune Holmevik To: enCore list Message-ID: Mime-version: 1.0 Content-type: text/plain; charset="ISO-8859-1" Content-transfer-encoding: quoted-printable X-archive-position: 12 X-listar-version: Listar v1.0.0 Sender: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu Errors-to: encore-bounce@utdallas.edu X-original-sender: jan.holmevik@hedb.uib.no Precedence: bulk Reply-to: encore@utdallas.edu List-help: List-unsubscribe: List-software: Listar version 1.0.0 X-List-ID: X-list: encore Herv=E9 Collin has just contributed LambdaMOO binaries for Intel-based Linux systems. You can place recorders on different tables and record discussions at those tables. Another solution which might be better is to create a series of discussion rooms connected to the classroom. This way, students won't have to sit at tables, they can lock the door to the room so no one can come in and disturb etc. If you choose this option, create one recorder in each discussion room. When we teloport to his vanished room by @go #number, all the descriptions in his room are gone and the 'say' and 'emote' functions are disalbed. We can only talk in the same room by 'page'.
